SERVICES
I use client-centered approaches in counseling with evidence-based methods from cognitive-behavioral, DBT and attachment-focused perspectives.
Following are the main service areas along with full list of areas I can help in.
Depression and Anxiety
Are you feeling persistent sadness? Do you struggle to feel excited about anything anymore? Are racing thoughts and out of control worrying making you tired, indecisive and irritable all the time? You do not have to remain stuck in this negative state. You, or your loved one may be experiencing depression and/or anxiety and professional help may be the answer if these problems are stopping you from functioning well.
In essence, therapy involves a purposeful conversation. However, we will go beyond just listening by using evidence-based treatments, tailored to your specific needs.
EMDR for Trauma
Most people associate the term trauma with a catastrophic experience like war, a natural disaster, or a violent assault. We call those the Big “T” traumas. Big “T” traumas can typically lead to extreme symptoms of PTSD. Individuals experiencing those symptoms are more likely to be identified early on and receive psychiatric help.
It is the little “t” traumas that slip through the cracks. If you have lived through emotional abuse, bullying, harassment, relationship loss, or any distressing event that is impacting your ability to handle stress, you can safely call it a trauma response.
Everyone handles stressors differently. Although we are resilient as a specie, we are not without our vulnerabilities. The goal of a therapeutic relationship will be trauma integration by helping you identify and label root causes of your trauma and developing self-regulation skills in a safe and judgement-free space.
What is EMDR therapy?
As an EMDR-trained clinician, I work by directing your eye movements to help you relive traumatic or triggering experiences in brief doses.
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing is a form of psychotherapy that helps people heal from complex trauma that is often difficult to heal from. The World Health Organization recommends EMDR and CBT since these techniques "help people reduce vivid, unwanted, repeated recollections of traumatic events" (WHO News Release, 2013). As an EMDR-trained clinician, I work with complex trauma with the goal of reducing the power the traumatic memories.
Couples
Many of us hesitate to discuss conflicts at home with strangers for a myriad of reasons. As a therapist, I am licensed to provide evidence-based couple interventions, while maintaining confidentiality.
I have completed Level 1 of Gottman Method Couples Therapy to help couples recognize and resolve everyday conflicts, stonewalling, and communication issues. As a certified Prepare/Enrich facilitator, I provide marital and pre-marital counseling to help you build a meaningful and resilient connection, regardless of the stage of your relationship.
Teenage Behavior
The infamous time of ‘stress and storm’ of your adolescent may be wrecking havoc in your family life right now. If you are concerned about your child's well-being or are seeing behavioral issues, including self-harm and/or substance abuse, it is time to reach out for help.
Utilizing effective therapeutic interventions, I can help your teenager identify, label, and express their experiences and feelings in healthy ways.
